Join this session to discover what a preservation architect is and how they can help you plan maintenance, repairs, and lead the renovations for your older and historic building stock. You will learn who qualifies as a preservation architect, how they differ from general-practice architects and architectural historians, and what roles a preservation architect can and should fulfill on a project.


Nancy Goldenberg, AIA, Assoc. DBIA, Principal, Treanor
With over 43 years of practice as an architect, preservation architect, and architectural historian, Nancy guides historic building owners through their projects – honoring both the place and the people represented within. She has worked on architectural projects on notable buildings such as the San Francisco City Hall, the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House and Veterans Building, the Palace of Fine Arts, the Stanley Mosk Library & Courts, and the California State Capitol. A principal at TreanorHL, Nancy holds a Master of Arts in Architectural History from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from UC Berkeley.

K. Vance Kelley, AIA, Principal, Treanor
Vance has dedicated his 39-year career to the preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of historic and older buildings. With a strong belief in the viability of historic structures and their importance within the larger community, he works with public agencies to ensure the longevity of functional and efficient buildings for future generations. Vance’s notable projects include Kansas Statehouse Preservation & Restoration, Oklahoma State Capitol Exterior Rehabilitation, and the Missouri State Capitol Exterior Masonry Renovations & Repair. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Environmental Design, both from the University of Kansas, and is NCARB certified.
